Description

This 18G needle by BD Microlance is a sterile stainless steel needle with a polypropylene luer-lock connector. It measures 1.2 mm wide and 40 mm long. Each needle comes in its own sterile package.

What Is a BD Microlance 18G Needle Used For?

Growers use an 18G needle to inject liquid culture into grain bags, jars and agar. The 18-gauge size is thin enough to pass through an injection port easily. At the same time, it is wide enough for most liquid cultures to flow freely. Therefore, it is the standard needle for mushroom work.

How to Use the Needle

1. First, clean your hands and workspace.
2. Next, twist the needle onto a 10ml luer lock syringe or a liquid culture syringe.
3. Then wipe the injection port with alcohol.
4. Finally, inject through the port into your sterilized grain.

In addition, the needle is autoclavable. For thick cultures, choose the wider 16G needle. Read our liquid culture guide or learn more about needle gauges.

Do you work with thick cultures? Then choose the 16G needle instead. For most liquid cultures, however, the BD Microlance 18G needle is the best fit.
